Conferences
The GWA-DC was known for its involvement with other women's events in the area including the summer Sisterfire musical extravaganzas and the Passages conferences. In 1985, GWA-DC presented its own first conference.
The GWA-DC hosted their first conference on April 27, 1986 at the Dupont Plaza Hotel. Maureen Bunyan, a newscaster, was the keynote speaker. Workshop topics focused on professional, social, and personal issues ranging from choosing the right computer to myths surrounding women's sexuality.
The Passages conference in 1986 dealt with topics relevant to lesbian aging, including sexuality, health, work, and discrimination. The conference was followed by a dance.
The Sisterfire festival was a celebaration of women's culture including a broad range of activities and performances.
