"Coming Out Lesbian: Resources and Challenges in the 1970s and 1980s" Panel discussion
Description
Five DC women discuss the coming out process for women in the 1970s and 1980s--not just how they came out as lesbians, but also what challenges they faced and what resources they found in DC for getting them through the coming out process and discovering the local lesbian community. The members of the panel will cover much of two decades in their memories of coming out.

Get the audience involved: ask people in the audience to raise their hands in turn for coming out in 70s, in the 80s, in the 90s, and in this century.
Cheryl: Introduce the panel and ask them to say when they came out. Then take the earliest first (probably Boden and Casse, followed by Patsy, Kim, and Bonnie).
Ask them first to talk about what resources they were aware of and what links they had to the lesbian community before they came out. Let all of the panelists speak to this first.
Then ask them to talk about the challenges/difficulties of coming out in their period and follow up with their own coming out story.
Audience: Ask the audience how the five coming out stories relate to their own experience and invite them to ask the panelists questions (if they haven’t already done so).
