Description

The Paulette Goodman collection includes the personal correspondence of Paulette Goodman, as well as her correspondence on behalf of PFLAG-DC and the national PFLAG federation. The correspondence includes letters to and from First Lady Barbara Bush, which may represent one of the first positive statements about gay people to be delivered by any White House. The collection also consists of financial documents, committee, board, and task force records of PFLAG-DC, informational and instructional pamphlets and materials produced by PFLAG-DC, press clippings, press releases, testimonies before state and local government bodies, correspondence with state and local government officials, awards and honors for Ms. Goodman, speeches and PFLAG convention programs and records.

Access Rights

Available to all people, by appointment, at the DC History Center, as MS 0764 RHP, Series XIX. Collection is available for “fair use.” Material may be protected by copyright.
Materials donated in 2022 are not yet available at the DC History Center, and are available only by arrangement with RHP.

Provenance

The materials were created, collected, and preserved by Paulette Goodman. In 2016 she donated them to RHP, and they were transferred to DC History Center in 2017. Additional materials were donated in 2022 by Paulette's daughter after Paulette's death. These materials have not been transferred to DCHC [as of June 2022].
