Each interview in this collection has a narrator telling the story and a documenter guiding the process. Collected since the founding of the RHP, this collection is growing and is open to researchers. All interviews have been digitized and are described in the catalog; only some of them have transcripts available. None of the interviews stream online. Catherine Tuerk discusses her upbringing in rural Pennsylvania under the care of her single mother, along with her conversion from Catholicism to Judaism, and how those aspects of her life impacted her reaction to her son’s coming out to her. In the aftermath of her son coming out, Tuerk adopted an activist role in championing LGBTQ+ rights, including as president of PFLAG, or the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Her work as an activist has concentrated in educating the public on the importance of accepting members of the LGBTQ+ community.
