Each interview in this collection has a narrator telling the story and a documenter guiding the process. Collected since the founding of the RHP, this collection is growing and is open to researchers. All interviews have been digitized and are described in the catalog; only some of them have transcripts available. None of the interviews stream online. Long time journalist with Washington’s premiere LGBTQ news source, The Washington Blade, Lou Chibbaro discusses his time in D.C. and experience writing for and within the community. Coming to the District for school in the early 70’s, Chibbaro’s passion for public policy empowered him to stay. Coming out of graduate school he worked for the American Public Power Association, writing about environmental and energy issues. Shifting from this to LGBTQ issues in the 70’s and early 80’s, Chibbaro began as a freelance writer for the Blade while concurrently working with the popular Gay and Lesbian stations Friends Radio and service as an officer for the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance, often taking on the pseudonym Lou Romano, in order to protect his identity. Throughout his time in Washington, Chibbaro has been and continues to be an activist and an involved journalist, still working for the Blade today.
