Each interview in this collection has a narrator telling the story and a documenter guiding the process. Collected since the founding of the RHP, this collection is growing and is open to researchers. All interviews have been digitized and are described in the catalog; only some of them have transcripts available. None of the interviews stream online. Flavell grew up in Northern Minnesota, where he also attended community college. He then later came out shortly after graduation. His arrival to the DC area had been a luck strike while attending American University for his Masters Degree. T.J expresses the importance of education throughout this interview, emphasizing it is the only way to do right by your people (community). Upon his discovery of the Arlington Gay and Lesbian Alliance (AGLA) while in the DC area, he quickly made it his priority to contribute where and when needed. He had become a huge advocate for hosting events, saying that meeting in community spaces over a shared meal allows for special moments to occur. While volunteering with AGLA T.J mentions that the transgender community had impacted him the most because hadn't realized how under-appreciated they had been. He mentions that he is interested in starting a nonprofit organization himself, only in an attempt to support the already long-standing organizations he has grown to appreciate.
